What Does Sewer Line Service Include?

Sewer line service covers the underground lateral pipe connecting your home to the municipal sewer in the street — typically 4–6 inches in diameter and running 20–60 feet from the foundation to the property line.

Camera inspection is the first step of any sewer diagnosis. A fibre-optic camera shows the exact condition inside the pipe — cracks, root intrusions, offset joints, collapsed sections, or severe root damage — before any excavation begins. You receive a video report of pipe condition.

Hydro-jetting (sewer flushing) clears root intrusions, heavy grease accumulations, and mineral deposits using high-pressure water (4,000+ PSI). This is the appropriate first treatment when roots are present but the pipe structure is still intact. Results typically last 2–5 years before roots regrow.

Spot repair is the right solution when a specific section of the lateral is cracked or offset but the remainder is in good condition. We excavate the specific bad section, replace that segment, and backfill — far less expensive than full replacement.

Full lateral replacement is required when the pipe has multiple failures, severe root damage throughout, or is a clay pipe type that has reached end-of-life. We replace with SDR-35 PVC from the foundation to the property line.

TRCA permit coordination — sewer work near ravines or TRCA-regulated shorelines requires a permit from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. This applies to many Scarborough and Etobicoke properties near creek valleys.

How Much Does Sewer Line Repair Cost in Toronto? (2026)

Sewer line costs are among the larger home repair expenditures, but accurate camera scoping prevents over-scoping.

Service Cost Range (CAD)
Camera inspection $200–$400
Hydro-jetting (sewer flush) $400–$800
Spot repair (1–3 ft section) $1,000–$3,000
Full lateral replacement (to property line) $5,000–$12,000
Full lateral + road crossing (to main) $8,000–$20,000
TRCA permit (Scarborough/Etobicoke ravine lots) $500–$1,500 additional

Costs vary significantly by depth, soil type (Scarborough clay vs Burlington shale), and length. Get a camera inspection report before accepting any quote for a lateral replacement.

Signs You Need Sewer Line Service

Contact us for a camera inspection if you notice:

  • Multiple drains backing up simultaneously
  • Gurgling from all drains when the toilet is flushed
  • Foul sewer smell in the yard over the sewer line path
  • Soggy, lush, or sunken ground over the sewer line route
  • Recurring drain blockages that return within 1–3 months of cleaning
  • Rat or pest intrusion via sewer (common in clay pipe sections with joint gaps)

How Our Sewer Line Process Works

Step 1 — Camera inspection. We insert a camera at the cleanout or through a toilet. The full run to the municipal connection is recorded. You receive a copy of the inspection report.

Step 2 — Scope definition. Based on the camera report, we provide a written recommendation — hydro-flush only, spot repair, or full replacement — with a cost range for each option.

Step 3 — Permit application (if needed). City of Toronto or regional building permit and TRCA permit if in a regulated zone.

Step 4 — Excavation and repair. Work proceeds according to scope. Excavation is done with precision to minimise landscaping impact. We coordinate city sidewalk and boulevard permits where needed.

Step 5 — Backfill and restoration. Excavation is backfilled and compacted. Concrete sidewalk or driveway sections are restored.
